Senator Rand Pushes for Legislative Session Limits

    Monday, March 02, 2009

    Senator Tony Rand

Senate Bill 15 – Session Limits, introduced by Senator Tony Rand (D-Fayetteville) would create limits on the length of each Legislative session. Under the proposed session limits, the legislature would have saved over one million dollars in per diem pay for the 2007-2008 legislative sessions.

“By placing time limits on sessions, we force ourselves to produce first-rate legislation in an effective manner while saving precious taxpayer dollars.” Senator Rand continued, “We (the Senate) were in session for 190 days during 2007 and 67 days in 2008. I believe this bill will create the combination of heightened focus and increased accountability to ensure our work gets done in the timeliest way possible.”
