Raleigh – Senate President Pro Tempore Marc Basnight has appointed Senator Tony Foriest as Co-Chair of the Senate Committee on Education and Higher Education and Co-Chair of the Appropriations on Education and Higher Education Committee. As Co-Chair of these two important committees, Senator Foriest will play a leading role in shaping the education policy in the Senate and funding public education, community colleges, and universities, which comprise over half of the state budget.
Senator Basnight said, “I am pleased to appoint Senator Foriest as Co-Chair of the Senate Committee on Education and Higher Education and Co-Chair of the Appropriations on Education and Higher Education Committee. Tony Foriest is someone who knows the issues and will provide real leadership as we work through this year’s budget process and continue improving education in our state.”
Senator Foriest said, “I am honored to be appointed and thank Senator Basnight for the opportunity to have a greater impact on education. Nothing else we do in the General Assembly is more important than education and the decisions we make will affect the next generation of North Carolinians.”
