On May 8, 2009, Senator Tony Foriest of Burlington stood alongside Governor Perdue as she announced over $2 million of funding that would come to Alamance County. The money is made up of federal stimulus dollars that will, among other things, allow for Green Level to build a water tower. The $1.9 million project will help provide a stable water source and supplies the town a source of ample water pressure.

“Regardless of your opinion on the federal stimulus package, it’s here and we’re doing everything we can in Raleigh to make sure people here at home in Alamance and Caswell counties benefit as much as possible from it,” said Senator Foriest. “Not only does $1.9 million go towards Green Level, but the Village of Alamance, Elon, and Gibsonville combine to receive another $1 million to improve the accessibility of their water supplies.”
The Town Manager for Green Level has said that because of a moratorium on new water connections that has been in place for several years, local economic progress has been stifled. This project will provide the town with the required infrastructure to grow, and the new water tower will have a positive effect on the overall public health of the area.
Additionally, these projects will create jobs within the communities they are based in. According to a stipulation required by the stimulus, at least 20 percent of the money must go towards green projects. “It’s a great project,” concluded Senator Foriest. “In one fell swoop we’re able to create jobs, kick-start local economic growth, protect the health and safety of our communities and protect our environment.”
